A graphing calculator is required. The TI-83 is a good choice, although if you plan to take a lot more math, you might consider the TI-89 or 92.

Grading: There will be four in-class tests and a comprehensive final exam. Your grade will be calculated both of the following ways, and you will receive the higher of the two scores.

• Lowest test grade: 15%
• Three best test grades: 20% each
• Final exam: 25%
             • Lowest test grade: 10%
    • Three best test grades: 20% each
    • Final exam: 30%

In the event that you miss a test—for whatever reason—the percentage for the lowest test will transfer to the final exam. In other words, no make-up tests will be given. (However, arrangements can sometimes be made in advance to take a test early or at an alternative time on the same day.)

Homework: Homework problems will be assigned but will not be taken up for grading. There will be opportunity during class for you to ask questions about problems with which you have difficulty.

A lot of problems are assigned. So it might be a good idea first to do every other problem, and then come back to work the rest in preparation for each test.

If you intend to succeed in this course, it is crucial that you keep up with the homework assignments.

Above all, don’t kid yourself into thinking you can let this slide. You need to work on it at least 10-12 hours a week.

Disability Services: If you have disability -- or believe you might have a disability -- you should talk with someone in the Office of Disability Services, which works with students with disabilities to assess their needs and assist with academic accommodations that may be appropriate.

Honor Code: Students are bound as always by all parts of the AASU Student Honor Code and Code of Conduct. Specifically, any use of unauthorized materials or assistance during an examination will be considered a serious violation and will be dealt with appropriately.
