T3 – HRW Algebra 1 Institute from T3 (Teachers Teaching with Technology)

  • Credit: Participants may earn 3 staff development credits (3 SDU's) for completing this course or can opt to earn graduate credit.

Course Outline

  • A one-week institute from 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. [with social and group homework opportunities at night]

  • Primarily teachers of pre-algebra and Algebra 1.  The primary focus of the activities is to explore pre-algebra and algebra concepts and problems using the TI-83+ graphing calculator and other technology (including CBR, Internet) as tools for teaching and learning.  Participants will learn new teaching strategies and will have opportunities for hands-on experience.  The goal of the institute's program is to instruct  teachers in new and innovative ways to effectively teach mathematics using technology in the spirit of NCTM's Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM, 2000)  Holt, Rinehart and Winston, Inc. Algebra I will be the source of the problems/activities.  No prior experience with technology is necessary

  • Taught by Betty Gasque (a dynamic, motivational, experienced teacher and T^3  Instructor) from South Carolina

  • The $200.00 fee includes 5 days instruction, calculator and CBR loan for the course, textbook and resource materials, lunches, breaks, low country shrimp boil, and a wealth of instructional materials
